What is a Poem?
A poem is a form of literary art that uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language to evoke meanings beyond a prosaic interpretation. Poems use condensed language, imagery, and specific structural patterns to express emotions and ideas.

History of Poems
Poetry has a rich and diverse history spanning thousands of years across cultures worldwide.
The earliest known poems include the Epic of Gilgamesh from Mesopotamia, the Vedas in India, and works by Homer in ancient Greece. These were often epic narratives that preserved cultural histories and mythologies.
Poetry flourished in various regions with distinct traditions. In India, classical Sanskrit poetry reached its peak with works like Kalidasa's "Meghaduta." In Europe, courtly love poetry and religious verses were prominent.
This period saw a revival of classical forms and the emergence of sonnets. William Shakespeare in England and Kabir in India were influential poets of this era who expanded poetic expression.
Romantic poets emphasized emotion, nature, and individualism. William Wordsworth, John Keats, and in India, poets like Mirza Ghalib expressed deep personal feelings and social commentary.
